mi familia

Wil Denton, my dad - hugging his grandson, my nephew, Phil Hamer

I'm in Mexico this morning getting ready for my nephew's wedding. He and his fiance, Dalene, chose to get married near the water, at the Marriott, not far from Siempre Para Los Ninos, our orphanage in TJ. My dad didn't get to come, so some of us gathered for a bit of family time with mom and dad before making a run for the border... it's the kind of stuff our family does... do what we can to include mom and dad in all the big events, even when they won't remember them an hour later. We want to be with them. Looking at this photo from my phone this morning I realized that Phil will remember.

Someday he and Dalene will look back on their final moments before marital bliss- taking time to hang out with grandparents. Dalene's grandmother came all the way from S. Africa for the wedding... friends have gathered from across the country, around the world, and the family continues to grow. God's Good.

Hope good things are happening in your family today; that it's growing. At dinner together last night, laughing, someone said we looked like a gathering of the UN... that's OK with us.

congrats Phil and Dalene!

Eric,

My wife, Paula, my son, Ken, and I lived in Long Beach and attended the Church of God where your father was pastoring from 1982 to 1984. We treasure the memories of those years when we came to know and love your parents.

We used to communicate at least at Christmas every year, but we lost track of your parents during one of their moves. However, I still think of them often and have been wondering how they and the rest of your family are doing.

For some reason, today I decided to Google your father's name and in the process of examining the search results I found your blog.

Thank you so much to posting the pictures of your Dad. It was also good to see the picture of Phillip (Phlipper as we new him at age 2) all grown up and to see a picture of Jim Minnis.

I was sorry to hear of your parents' health issues, but it was so very good to see pictures of your Dad. He is still the best pastor I have ever known and I cherish the memories of the duets we sang together. I remember that Joanne Minnis would fuss at him for making up his own harmony instead of singing what what written and she was playing, but that was never a distraction to me - your Dad could really harmonize! I would have loved to be there to hear your Dad and Uncle MarK singing.

Paula will be thrilled to be able to view your blog site and see the pictures. Again, thanks for posting where I could find it. It has really blessed me!!
